M51 - The Whirlpool Galaxy
Imaging equipment: Canon 450d on Skywatcher 130pds telescope and HEQ5 Pro mount.
M51 lies in the constellation of Canes Venatici and is positioned very high in the sky late February and during March.
The galaxy is quite faint with an apparent magnitude of 8.4 so I needed a long exposure time. My final image was the result of stacking 310 x 60 second exposures giving in a total exposure time of 5 hours and 10 minutes.
The original frames were taken over three evenings on 22nd, 26th and 27th February 2022
